Leafs: Fans submit funny ‘Sea of Blue’ tweets

As if the Leafs aren’t having enough trouble already, their problems have now filtered off the ice as well. As part of the upcoming Winter Classic, the marketing department introduced the hashtag #seaofblue, so fans could tweet encouraging messages for the team.

Unfortunately, this included integrating the tweets on the Leafs website, not a good idea when your team is in a bad slump. Suffice it to say, after the following gallery of tweets appeared on the homepage, the team apologised and confirmed they would start checking what was being submitted.

Leafs Bingo: A game for all occasions

I know this will come across as kicking a team when it’s down, but let’s be honest, we all need cheering up with what’s been going on lately. As such, let me introduce a new game for everyone to play: Leafs Bingo!

Actually, it looks like Leafs bingo is really catching on. Someone else decided to come up with their own version, although you have to assume they are quite young:

To be fair, it’s a good effort. I especially like ‘JVR spinny thingy’.

‘Lupul preggers’ is an interesting one as well. I realise Joffrey Lupul is extremely popular with women, but I though he was only renowned for not wearing protection ON the ice, as per his foot injury back in October.

Leafs: Randy Carlyle struggles with the toaster

Last night was the first episode of HBO’s eagerly anticipated ’24/7 Road to the Winter Classic’. This was easily my favourite part of the entire show:

Suddenly, it’s become a lot clearer why the Leafs have been struggling lately. This is the guy who’s been coaching them!!!

Saturday’s 7-3 win aside, if Randy Carlyle doesn’t turn the team around soon, he’s going to be toast himself. (Okay, fine. That was pretty bad. Moving swiftly on………)

Leafs fan gets car serviced in Vancouver

As The Star reported today, a recent survey found that Canadians are hooked on their country, but not each other. Which might explain why the following happens when you’re a Leafs fan, but take your car to be serviced in Vancouver:

Leafs: Reaction to 6-5 shootout loss in Pittsburgh

Wow! In the words of the great Ron Burgundy: “Boy, that escalated quickly.” While last night’s encounter in Pittsburgh was probably the most exciting game I’ve seen this season, the Leafs still lost.

In fact……….dare I say it……….it’s the first time Toronto’s ‘finest’ has given up a 4-1 lead since a certain game 7 in Boston. As you can imagine, the game resulted in all kinds of comments on social media.

Now, we could spend all day drip-feeding you some of the reaction, but I don’t see how that would help any of us. As such, we’ve decided to throw some of the best (worst?) pictures at you in one fell swoop, so we can all just get on with the rest of this bloody miserable day.

Leafs: Joffrey Lupul to miss three games

Another entry from our ‘No Shit Sherlock’ category: Joffrey Lupul is injured again. The Leafs winger is expected to miss at least three games with a groin injury.

In fact, since coming to Toronto in 2011, Lupul has (so far) missed 50 games in total, leading to an appropriate new nickname: Mr Glass.

Leafs: Dion Phaneuf actually smiles

Forget the Zapruder film.  This is the moment we’ve all be waiting for: Proof that Dion Phaneuf does actually smile!

Taking place during Monday’s ‘Night of Blue and White’, in support of the MLSE foundation, I can only assume the Leafs captain didn’t realise he was being recorded.  Either way, it’s good to know he does actually have the ability to enjoy himself.

Leafs: Young fan sums up Canadiens performance

About the only thing that can make a Leafs victory even sweeter, is when their hated rivals, the Canadiens, lose on the same night.  Yesterday turned out to be one such occasion, with the Leafs beating the Penguins 4-1 and the Canadiens being defeated 2-0 by the Sharks.

And fortunately, there was a young Canadiens fan at the Bell Centre last night, who unwittingly summed up her team’s performance:

Leafs: Phil Kessel & Carl Gunnarsson dress up as babies

I made a comment yesterday about a picture of David Clarkson and James van Riemsdyk shopping for Halloween costumes, being one of the funniest photos I’d ever seen.  I now realise that was unnecessary hyperbole.  This is the funniest photo I’ve ever seen:

There’s no need to adjust your laptop screen, your eyes are not deceiving you.  Yes, that is Phil Kessel, Carl Gunnarsson and ex Leafs player Jonas Gustavsson dressed up as babies for a Halloween party from a couple of years ago, although I’m not exactly sure what dressing up as babies has to do with Halloween.

Also in the picture are the players wives/girlfriends from the time, although they look like they could be a part of some cloning experiment.  In case you’re wondering, the one on the left is Kessel’s ex……………..Sorry, what’s that?  Nooo! Not the far left! That’s Tyler Bozak.

Fortunately, Bozak and Kessel are still very much an item, living together as best friends. The teammates also enjoy custody of Phil’s dog from his relationship with the young lady above, although she was probably happy to give up the pet, if it meant getting rid of Bozak as well.

Leafs: David Clarkson & JVR go shopping for halloween costumes

They often say a picture speaks a thousand words, and that’s definitely the case with the image below.  It’s certainly one of the funniest photos I’ve seen in a while, especially when it involves anything to do with a Leafs franchise normally used to making it’s fanbase angry and/or upset:

I’m just glad to see David Clarkson has been keeping himself busy while serving his 10-game suspension.  I’m going to resist the urge to say anything about what James van Riemsdyk’s up to, although I am slightly concerned about what Cabbie might be doing behind him.

(Just in case Clarkson, JVR or indeed any of you are wondering where to go for Halloween, here’s some suggestions.  I’ll admit it, the Pimp & Ho Player’s Ball is my personal favourite.)
